Finding your Purpose

9 Jan 2019

“ The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why ”

I know we all have our unique answer to this question, it will mean many different things to many of you, I’d like to share with you what I believe purpose in life is all about.

Purpose in life is also known as Dharma and the law of Dharma states that everyone has a purpose in life. We all have our own unique gifts and talents and if we use these unique attributes in all aspects of our life and these are expressed and then shared with those who need it or with those will benefit from it then your Dharma (purpose) can be realized.

Purpose defines who you are, it reflects your passions and values. It provides clarity as you set goals and take action. Your sense of purpose steers how you live your life and how you lead yourself and others. Life is meant to flow, and we are supposed to live and work with ease and with grace.

I don't know about you but sometimes life feels like hard work. And for me over the years on and off has felt a struggle, but life is not meant to be a struggle, it was never created to be as hard or as challenging as it perhaps it is for many of us.

When we’re born we all have the same amount of potential and the opportunity to do something with it, which primarily is to live our purpose. But research shows that only 10% of our human potential is ever fully realised and the 90% that's left tends to lie dormant with us. So, you can imagine that's only a fraction of our purpose ever being realised throughout our human life.

Depending upon how you’re brought up, the family you were born in to, that potential, that opportunity to live your life’s purpose will not be the same. The world around us, our family environment and the other external influences, start to shape who we become so when we reach adulthood the same possibilities are still there but its sometimes difficult to see it or even connect with it.

We all were created to live our purpose and depending upon the school of thought and what you personally believe, we are all here for a reason and we all have a path to walk. Sages, gurus, spiritual teachers share the same philosophy, and that is, we have a choice in life and we have a choice in how we live our life, we all know right from wrong and we can all reach more of our potential if we really wanted to. The only reason why we don't achieve our life’s purpose is because we hold ourselves back or we allow others and stuff, what I call background noise get in the way.

If we really want something, we can have it and we can achieve it, but to do this, it takes commitment, it takes a belief in yourself and more than anything you have got to trust yourself. You have to trust that you can do it.

Knowing we are all created to live our purpose, and what you personally believe in, will determine how you live your life. our beliefs will determine what you do and what you are meant to do.

So, we are all here, so you must believe you have a purpose in life? Some of you may already be living it and others may still be searching for it and if like me you’ve asked yourself, “There has to be more to life, I want to be doing something more worthwhile, more purposeful, to have meaning in my life” then you have come to the right place. Your journey starts here.

We all have a path to walk in life, these paths will vary depending upon what we are here to do. Some of us will be making past wrongs, right, others will be pursing more of that whey did before and others will be breaking new ground. Whatever you believe, we know that we only get to live one life in our physical body, which means it’s important to make the most of it.

If we can, we should aim walk our path to fulfil our potential and our life’s purpose and maybe by doing this, you will help others do the same? When we talk about our life’s purpose, this does not mean we all have to conquer the world, find a cure for cancer or live our life like a saint. But what it does mean - is that we should embrace what feels right to us. And that's why we need to understand our own purpose first.

When we don't embrace our true path, we start to feel a conflict within. I would describe this as a restlessness that tends to grows with in us and that restlessness starts off like a small rumble of thunder thousands of miles away, but the more restless you become, the louder the rumble gets. Until one day, it will be overhead, there will be a huge clap of thunder that will wake you up. The noise that resides inside will one day be so loud that we can no longer ignore it. It is at that tipping point we make the choice, it's a choice that requires courage. It's the day we start to pay attention, we awaken, we listen to that voice, perhaps the one that we’ve ignored for years or tried even to subdue.

When we start to pay attention, we wake up and we realise that there is something more for us in life, something more we can do, more purposeful, that is good for ourselves but can also be good for others too.
